16 June 2010: Prestwich wraps up festival with grand finale
Five weeks of Prestwich Festival wrap come to an end this week with the Prestwich Carnival.
The two day carnival event starts on Saturday 19 June with a mega football tournament and funfair in St Marys Park.
At 1pm on Sunday 20 June the Grand Parade sets off with four marching bands, a samba band accompanied by spectacular 16foot tall street walks, floats of every description, walkers and collectors.
New attractions at this year’s carnival are a RSPCA Dog Show and Squeeky the Clown will put in a special appearance at the Kids Corner marquee.
Prestwich’s three Childrens Centre will be in attendance to provide local families with information about what’s on in the local area this summer.
On the Showcase Stage, compare David K will introduce the sensational Marvin Ruffin; tributes to Lady Ga Ga and Amy Winehouse; Dance talent and Dance Studio; Middleton Pop stars, Floodlights Theatre Company and Ruby Foarn-Parkinson.
St Mary’s Park will be jam packed with activities including the Tent of Queens, majorettes competition, football tournament, total fitness arena, climbing walls, the Stalls Village, food stalls and bouncy castles.
David Curtis, Prestwich Festival Organiser said, “ Prestwich festival has delivered over 60 wonderful events over the past five weeks - but the best is yet to come with Prestwich Carnival!
There will be two action packed days of family entertainment all organised by local volunteers. We rely on cash we collect on the day to cover the costs of the event and raise money for local charities – so please do give generously”
Councillor Vic D’Albert, Chair of Prestwich Local Area Partnership, said, “Prestwich Carnival is a huge undertaking by volunteers who put on a wonderful event that contributes so much to Prestwich.
